The capital city of Malta, Valletta is jam-packed with tourist attractions, ranging from museums to open air-concerts and from exhibitions to period-costume re-enactments.  The Museum of Archaeology houses a rich exhibition of prehistoric artefacts.  At Fort St. Elmo, there is a military parade in period-costume every Sunday which gives you a glimpse of life in Malta in the past.  Another two very important tourist attractions which you should not miss are St. John’s Co-Cathedral and the Grandmaster’s Palace.

Other historical sites worth visiting are the Megalithic Temples (including the Ggantija, the world’s oldest free-standing temple), Fort St. Angelo and Fort Rinella, where one can find one of the largest canons in the world, as well as St. Paul’s and St. Agatha’s underground catacombs in Rabat.

For the art lovers, the National Museum of Fine Arts houses an impressive artistic collection.  To see Caravaggio’s Beheading of St. John, one should visit the St. John’s Co-Cathedral whilst a remarkable collection of antiques may be found in Palazzo Falson in Mdina.  Those interested in contemporary art should pay a visit to the St. Johns Cavalier Art Centre in Valletta and walk through the exceptional exhibits.
